In terms of quantity and quality, one of the greatest collections of objects from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition resides in the Field Museum in Chicago. The permanent collection is a treasure trove of unique and fascinating items from the 1893 Exposition. We visited the museums several times recently to take in some of the temporary exhibits having World’s Fair materials on display and share a few photos here.

Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation ran from July 29, 2017, through January 7, 2018. The exhibit, created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and co-presented in Chicago by the Indo-American Heritage Museum, showcased the early Indian community in Chicago and the seminal speech by Swami Vivekananda at the World’s Congress of Religions in 1893. A press release from the Field further explains the exhibit.

Brewing Up Chicago: How Beer Transformed a City (which we announced here) runs from November 2, 2018, through January 5, 2020. Hosted at the Field, this is the first exhibition of a proposed Chicago Brewseum. Beer produced and displayed at the 1893 World’s Fair plays a central part if the exhibit’s story line. Several fascinating objects along with descriptive video and text accompany the exhibit.

Mummies (which we announced here) runs from March 16, 2018, through April 21, 2019, and is separately ticketed from museum entrance. The “Gilded Lady” mummy, which hadn’t been seen in public since the 1893 Fair, is a sight to behold!
