An evening inspired by the 1893 World’s Fair takes the stage at the historic Auditorium Theatre on Friday, June 14, 2019. The Auxiliary Board’s annual Devil’s Ball promises to be “a night of devilishly good fun” that features a premium open bar with beer, wine, and cocktails; heavy hors d’oeuvres featuring global cuisine; and dancing on the stage that has hosted artists and performers for 130 years.
Designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan, the Auditorium was the nation’s largest structure when it opened in 1889. At the grand opening of the Auditorium Building, held on December 9, President Benjamin Harrison dedicated the theater before a crowd of 5-7 thousand under a glow of as many electric lights. Chicago at that time was agitating to host the upcoming World’s Fair and would be selected by Congress just a few weeks later.
Tickets to the Devil’s Ball, available here, are $100 until 5 PM on June 13, or $125 after or at the door. All proceeds from the event support the restoration and preservation of the National Historic Landmark Auditorium Theatre.
